What could be better than spending a morning eating cupcakes?
Simple – spending a WHOLE DAY eating cupcakes, all whilst raising money for an incredible cause!
Our team here at Kingfisher HQ spent Thursday doing exactly that as we pulled together in support for the Alzheimer’s Society’s #CupcakeDay with a feast of tasty treats.
The ‘treat table’ opened at 11am, and we wasted no time in tackling the mountain of goodies in front of us!
There was homemade vanilla cupcakes and banana muffins, chocolate cupcakes, caramel slices, flapjack, cookies… you name it! There was even a plate of pastel-coloured unicorn cakes which went down a treat.
The sheer amount of cake did eventually prove to be too much for the Kingfisher crew alone, so we enlisted the help of our neighbours from Mill Accountancy to tackle the rest.
So what is #CupcakeDay?
Each year, the Alzheimer’s Society hosts a nationwide Cupcake Day in order to raise money for dementia research.
Hosting a #CupcakeDay party can make a huge difference to the lives of people with dementia.
“By hosting a Cupcake Day you get to enjoy some tasty treats with your workmates, friends and family knowing you are helping us work tirelessly to find new treatments and, ultimately, a cure for dementia.” – Alzheimer’s Society
So not only did we stuff ourselves silly with cupcakes, flapjack, caramel slices and more, we also managed to raise an amazing £130 in donations throughout the day.
That’s enough to pay for two communication tools that use symbols (rather than words) to help people with advanced dementia communicate. An amazing thing to come from just a little bit of cake!
If you feel you’ve missed out on the fun, then not to worry. You can throw your own #CupcakeDay party any day of the year, even if you’re not in the UK. Simply sign up for your own fundraising pack and get baking.
